Friday Night

We will be at the bridge this Friday!

The address is 1818 Corsicana Street Dallas, TX 75201 - just two blocks from the DRC.

We have 15 volunteers serving dinner (the facility provides the food - we will provide the volunteers to serve it) Right now - they are not letting anyone bring food to the facility.
Those volunteers need to be at the bridge at 5:30 PM. Tell them that you are with OurCalling.org and that you are here to volunteer - and go to the cafeteria. Dinner will be served from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.
If you CAN show up that early (5:30 PM) - please do. We have some who have committed - but not as many as we need. Most people are just getting off of work so we really need your assistance.

The rest of the volunteers should show up between 6:00PM - 7:00PM. We will be serving in various other capacities as well as distributing resources that we will bring from the church. Look for me. I will be wearing a red hat.

No one needs to go to the church this Friday.

If you have any questions - please call me (Wayne @ 214-458-8687) or send me an email.

Thanks,
~Wayne

The ribbon is cut - the homeless were snubbed at the gate

Now I don’t like being a party pooper. But when the new homeless assistance center is opening - shouldn’t the homeless be allowed entrance into the party? I mean - it is actually their new house!

I showed up at the ribbon cutting today at the bridge. There was a long line of homeless at the gate and people in business casual attire were walking right past. I jumped in line with my homeless friends and started asking - “what are we waiting for”. Then someone told me that the homeless aren’t allowed into the party.

I jumped out of line, walked up to the front - and the security guards let me right in. I asked “Why aren’t they allowed in? “They are homeless and they can’t come in until the facility is officially opened”. How ridiculous.

Anyway - what a bad way to start a post - and a bad way to welcome the homeless into their new facility!

I went in anyway - what a hypocrite am I.

They had refreshments, music and the place looked beautiful. I was most interested in the looking in all of the buildings so I was very pleased when they announced that we could go “anywhere”.

This is a picture of the “pavillion”. Anyone who can come in - can sleep here. It’s a first come - first served basis. You don’t have to be in any “program” to get in.

My first response was - where will everyone fit. For reference I called the DRC and asked them how many people sleep in their facility each night. (The DRC is closing and being replaced by the bridge). The DRC sleeps 150 each night. Also there are beds (75) at the Dallas Life Foundation that were subsidized by the city. (which ends today). This new pavilion has 100 cots. Does everyone else have to sleep on the floor? (I do have to admit that those ginormous ceiling fans were really awesome. )

I could go on and on - but I will stop here. I think we need to pray for the leaders of this new facility. It has great potential to help in a ton of areas. I hope that those given this stewardship will take their job serious, give glory to God and compassion to those in need. All of us should pray.

Where are we parking this Friday night?

Would you like to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony?
