Every day in Dallas, someone experiencing homelessness is turned away, but not at OurCalling.

Across the city, barriers often stand in the way of help, making the system difficult to navigate. We are inclusive in who we serve because Christ is inclusive in who He loves, and we believe every person is made in the image of God, worthy of compassion, hope, and restoration through Jesus Christ.

We have learned that exiting homelessness does not look the same for everyone, but it always begins with safety and a welcoming environment. Following the example of Jesus, who welcomed those often overlooked by society, we create a place where every neighbor is seen, valued, and given the opportunity to move toward stability.

We want each neighbor to walk into our Navigation Center without fear of being turned away.

Who is everyone?

The woman escaping abuse
After spending 10 years in an abusive relationship, Tessa fled with nothing but the clothes on her back. Without identification, she was turned away from several places. Instead of sending her somewhere else, we welcomed her in and helped her find safety, support, and a community where she could begin rebuilding her life.

The man battling addiction
After losing his job, Anthony found himself sleeping on the streets. Afraid to fall asleep at night, he turned to drugs just to stay awake and survive. He was denied entry into a facility until he could get clean. Here, he didn’t have to be sober to walk through our doors. We welcomed him first, then connected him to the support, relationships, and resources that helped him begin his recovery journey.

The teenager who ran away
Jasmine fled the family that trafficked her, carrying fear, trauma, and nowhere safe to go. Instead of sending her from place to place to find help, we met her immediate needs and helped her reach a safe environment where she could begin healing and building a future free from exploitation.

The elderly neighbor
After losing her husband — and with him, her only source of income — Eleanor lost her home. At 80 years old, she found herself living on the streets for the first time in her life. She found her way here, where she was met with safety, compassion, and a community that reminded her she was not alone.

The couple who can’t be separated
Kenneth was Anita’s primary caretaker. Most shelters would only accept them if they separated, forcing Anita to lose the person caring for her and Kenneth to leave behind the woman he loved. Instead of making them choose, we helped them find a place where they could remain together, receive support, and continue life side by side.

The LGBTQ+ teenager
After being kicked out of his home, Avery struggled to find a place where he felt safe and accepted. Rather than turning him away or sending him somewhere else, we welcomed him with dignity and connected him to supportive housing and a community where he could begin to heal and thrive.

The dad with children
After his wife left, Marcus struggled to afford food, let alone housing. When he lost his home, he faced the possibility of being separated from his children because most shelters only accept women and children. After being turned away, he came here, and we helped his family find stability, support, and a path forward together.

Neighbors with complex needs
Daniel was wheelchair-bound and living with severe mental illness, unable to fully care for himself. Several facilities refused to accept him because of the level of care he needed. Instead of giving up on him, we helped him find the found the care, support, and community he needed to live the rest of his life.

See what’s possible when everyone has somewhere to belong…
