Who We Are

OurCalling began in 2001 with Wayne and Carolyn Walker, and a group of Christian volunteers, who had a heart to serve the Dallas homeless. They began by serving meals to the homeless and conducting Bible studies. It quickly became apparent that their new friends needed much more than food and a prayer, they needed community. To help scale their efforts, OurCalling was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) in 2009.

In 2011, OurCalling began renting a little building on Haskell Avenue to host Bible studies and feed the homeless. The building proved to be too small for the number of people who frequented the building each day seeking services, so in 2017 after considerable renovation and construction, OurCalling’s new facility opened on Cesar Chavez and set the stage for today’s impact on the homeless community.
