Homelessness

Merriam Webster defines homeless as “having no home or permanent place of residence.”
This describes many individuals who belong to their own subculture in society. They share a common economic status and the causes of their plight are similar.

Of the homeless in Dallas, our primary focus is on those individuals who do not live in shelters and who cannot find social services. Many of these individuals, but not all, have mental illness, emotional distress and physical handicap. Nutritional food, shelter, clothes, personal hygiene items are rare luxuries. Our goal is to meet those needs in order to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.

It is amazing how many good kids from bad homes become homeless - as well as bad kids from good homes that end up on the street. We are all a few bad decisions or a few paychecks away from being homeless.

  1. It is so very disheartening that the list of “helping agencies.” really do not “help” at all. Sure a few blankets here and a few meals there. Christmas dinners…thanksgiving meals….whatever. All these folks are just a number to be added to the grant money or the financial statement when the ‘non-profit organizations’ start requesting more funding….
Rest assured the donated money does goes somewhere…..but not to the ones who need it….
when was the last time any accountability was released on money.. And by the way, I was homeless for quite awhile and no -not one so called Helping agency assisted me…
I landed into a breakdown and I was an employed Nurse.
Even my church refused to assist me 3 times.
So my question to you and your staff is—
just who and when are you helping????
    Prove it..
list it…and not just a few fancy web pages with photos…

  2. I appreciate your comments and will email you offline.
I agree. There is a ton of corruption. We don’t take money - of any kind. If someone wants to give, we tell them where to buy the blankets, food, and clothes that we need. We are all volunteers. No one is paid a dime. And yet, we always have money (from our own pockets, job, etc…) to help people like you.

We get no grant money, no financial aid. Our volunteers pay for the food and blankets we serve.
But I don’t like talking about all we do - because we are not trying to glorify ourselves. God gets the glory for what he has called us to do.
I’m sorry your church is stupid. Some churches are. My church helped me out when we couldn’t pay our rent or groceries. Maybe that’s why I love giving back so much.

Email me personally (wayne [at] ourcalling.org ) and tell me how we can help.
