We trek under bridges, behind liquor stores, abandoned buildings, in tunnels and in remote camps looking for people who don’t have access to resources like food and water. We search for the lost and introduce them to the God who rescues.
There are thousands of homeless men, women and children who sleep outside every night. There simply isn’t enough room in the shelters. Food resources are located near downtown. So for those who are a few miles away or can’t afford transportation, they go without.
Jesus gave an illustration in the book of Luke:
15:4″Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?”
We pursue people that are lost, forgotten by the world and often rejected. They need food, water, blankets and basic resources. Someone needs to tell them they are not forgotten. They are loved. God sent His son to die for them, and He is sending us to find them. We acknowledge that we cannot “rescue” them. But the God who created them is in the rescue business. And He sends us to be His ambassadors to bring His love and His truth to those in need.
