What began eight years ago as a desire to minister to the homeless as a volunteer has blossomed into a ministry composed of a network of people just like you who share the same passion. That passion is our desire to see broken men and women know Christ and live to honor Him. That passion is OurCalling. “Our calling is to glorify God by leading homeless people to Christ and stabilizing broken lives as they begin God honoring lifestyles.”
It pains me to do this part-time. Not because I don’t love my job – but the needs downtown with the homeless are full-time. There are great services in shelters but they can only cater to a small percentage of the homeless population. I want to be on the streets full-time. Eventually we want to open up a 24 hour Bible Study and 12 step center – available to everyone who walks in. (read our vision statement) To get there – we need your prayers and support.
What are we doing now?
Every Friday we are serving the homeless at the Bridge. The city provides meals and we are spending our time evangelizing and loving our homeless friends. We show up at 6:30 and meet and greet people throughout the facility. At 7:30 I teach a “Life Skills” class. Over the past year we have been asking God to show us where the greatest need is. With the city and others serving meals and the shelters providing great services for those who can get inside – we are drawn to the thousands of homeless individuals left on the streets.
We are hosting outreach events where we give hygiene kits and share the love of God with friends. Come join us!
We have taken OurCalling to the next level. With a strong board of directors we have incorporated and have applied for our 501c3 non profit status. Why? It’s time to give the resources and time commitment necessary to reach these men and women with the gospel. It’s time to give ourselves to this calling. Will you join us?
