This week we are continuing to look at Personal Dignity. How is your opinion of yourself skewed by what others think? Who’s opinion really matters?
Dignity:
1: the quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteemed
What are you worth? To yourself?
We discussed how the value of something is often determined by its creation process. Products made on an assembly line by minimum skilled workers do not have the same value as products made by craftsmen.
How were you created?
Often we believe other’s opinions about ourself. Sometimes negative opinions cause us to have negative thoughts about ourselves. We wrote down the opinions that others have regarding us.
- What would a care manager say about you?
- What would the general public say about you?
- What would the general church say about you?
- What would the cops say about you?
- What would your family say about you?
- What do you say about you?
Are those things true?
How does their opinion of you – weigh on your own opinion of yourself?
What do you say – about you?
Describe yourself. Who are you?
Who does God say that you are?
Look at this handout Start with Psalm 139:13-18. What are God’s thoughts about you?
What about if you are a Christian? If you believe that Jesus died for you and you are saved – how does this effect your opinion of yourself? Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-21.
What is God’s opinion of you?
Read John 1:12-13. What are you called?
Do you not know what you are? Do you know that the world’s opinion of you – and your opinion of you, doesn’t matter as much as God’s opinion? Do you know that the Bible says you are a saint, a child of God, a new creature, an heir of the kingdom?
I am a sinner. I was a born a sinner and I will die a sinner. But because of Christ, I am created anew. I have been transformed into his image. I live every day for him. I know there will be days that I mess up, but God sees my potential. And because of what he did for me, I continue running the race to live a life that honors Him.
